Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Rottman Launch New Sports Database Platform
Green Bay Packers quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has launched a new IMDb-style digital platform focused on sports along with long-time friend and actor Ryan Rottman.
The site, which was launched on Tuesday afternoon, provides sports fans and professionals with information on athletes, including profiles, salaries, endorsements, statistics, charitable foundations, and their agent contacts.
The website is called the Online Sports Database (OSDB), with a headline touting itself as “the future of digital sports in the present.”
“OSDB is a premiere digital sports database and growing daily,” Aaron Rodgers said. “At OSDB, you’ll find stats, breaking news, human interest stories, and personal information on your favorite athletes.”
The idea of the new platform stems from IMDb.com, one of the most popular and authoritative sources for movie, television, and celebrity content. It’s a valuable tool for navigating the large acting industry in search of talent and potential employment.
“It occurred to me there was nothing like IMDb for the sports world,” said Ryan Rottman in a statement. “There isn’t one contained place you can find out everything there is to know about athletes and teams. There isn’t a place that highlights athletes away from their place of work. I had to navigate through 15 different sites to get in-depth info on my favorite players.”
The platform went live this week with a complete roster of NFL, MLB, and NBA athlete profiles. Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Rottman have reportedly raised $2.5 million from investors and will utilize this funding to expand its offerings in the coming months. They’ll work to include NHL, soccer, UFC, WNBA, PGA, LPGA, cricket, and E-Sports while adding features such as college, high school, and retired athlete profiles, historical data, and sports betting insights.
“Athletes are the biggest influencers,” said Ryan Rottman. “As brands and advertisers look to forge relationships, OSDB provides a one-stop-shop where they can have contact with the people who build those relationships on behalf of these athletes.”
Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Rottman plan to make the site financially viable through a subscription model, affiliate deals, and advertising. While much of the content will be free, the subscription sections will cost $9.99 per month and give anyone access to contact information for athletes’ agents.
