Beyoncé Giselle Knowles becoming the second artist to win 28 Grammy awards was the major highlight of the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, equaling Quincy Jones’s record as the most decorated performing artist.

Winning Best R&B Performance for “BLACK PARADE,” featured in Disney’s new The Lion King feature film, the accolade signifies many accomplishments beyond a stage. Beyoncé now holds the record for most Grammy wins by any female artist.

She received her first Grammy nomination at 18 as part of her work with the Destiny’s Child group. She would then receive her first award in 2001, winning the best R&B song and R&B performance with the hit song “Say My Name.”

Her energetic performances and mind-blowing vocals drove her popularity over the years. Similarly, being a wife to Jay-Z, one of Hip-hop’s all-time superstars, made her more popular amongst the rapper’s fans.

Since her debut in the music industry, Beyoncé has shown an essentially unparalleled versatility. Switching between Hip-hop, R&B, and pop, she’s expanded (and been successful) within various wildly different genres.

Beyoncé winning 28 Grammys is an inspiration to every woman in music, and even to those outside the industry. In her words, Beyoncé says:

“As an artist, I believe it’s my job and all of our jobs to reflect the times. And it’s been such a difficult time. So I wanted to uplift, encourage [and] celebrate all of the beautiful Black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world.”

“This is so overwhelming, I’ve been working my whole life — since nine years old — and I can’t believe this happened on such a magical night.”

The second artist with the most Grammy Awards is Alison Krauss with 27, followed by Steve Wonder with 25. However, Beyoncé is only 39 years, which means she has the potential of adding more to her collection. The 28 awards came from 80 nominations, and many will hopefully learn from Beyoncé’s commitment and patience that has been exercised throughout her impressive music career.
