Bill Gates’ Approach to Wealth Management
If you grew up during the end years of the 20th century, then you must have witnessed not only Bill Gates becoming the world’s richest man, but also maintaining this position for years and years. He used to be in the news almost every week, and I remember thinking “no one will ever be richer than Gates.” Until today, the name Gates is only associated with the richest in any given society.
Although Gates is most known for founding Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen, he came a long way from being just a wealthy innovative businessman to become the world’s greatest philanthropist. He has donated more money than any other billionaire to date.
Gates was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 28th, 1955. With his father being a lawyer, it was envisioned that Gates would major in law, but fate had other plans for him. At the age of 13, Gates became interested in code and made his first software program.
In 1975, Gates dropped out of Harvard University to concentrate on his new business venture, which came to be known as Microsoft. He started the company with his childhood friend Paul Allen who was also a programmer at the time.
By the start of the 1990s, Microsoft was the king of the PC industry. His boundless appetite for making software solve more problems through computers only increased with time. Essentially, he made computers that people can use. The Windows operating system was graphical, easy to use even to a non-technical person, and offered many new features like the start menu, Windows Explorer, the taskbar, etc.
With the introduction of the web, Microsoft also introduced the internet explorer. This meant more people bought the computers and earned Gates millions of dollars in the process. He became the world’s youngest billionaire in 1987 and maintained that status through the years.
Throughout the years, Gates dropped his responsibilities in Microsoft and let other people manage his creation. He sold most of his shares in Microsoft and branched off to become a philanthropist. He and his wife Melinda Gates formed the Gates foundation in 2000. It’s reported to be the largest private foundation in the world.
Below are some of the best projects Gates has carried out through the Gates foundation
- Global health division; This was made to fight malaria around the world.
- Global Development Division; This aims to eradicate inequality to developing parts of the world and inequality to access health care.
- Global Growth opportunity division; This aims to eradicate poverty through breaking down barriers to economic opportunities to the developing countries.

Well, Gates has always been one of those people who invest heavily in making vaccines to different diseases worldwide. And during these challenging times of COVID-19, Gates is one of the leading people to invest heavily in searching for the vaccine, and he promised to invest more money to supply the vaccine to different parts of the world.
To some people, Gates is this person who amassed a lot of wealth. But deep down, Gates is much more than that.
