Cop or Drop? A Fantasy Football Analysis for Week 3

Published

on

After a tiresome Week 2, football came back for Week 3. Here are the players to drop or add/trade for to succeed in the following weeks. Your performance this week will be critical, so we’ve compiled a list to help you manage your roster.

Quarterbacks:

Trade for: Josh Allen

This man is an absolute beast, scoring 28.2, 34.5, and 31.2 fantasy points this season. One can argue that he has gone against easy teams, as he has faced the Jets, Dolphins, and Rams, but if you need a QB, Josh Allen is the guy to go for.

Trade for/Add: Kyler Murray

After an ok rookie football season, Murray has boomed to become a QB1. In the last few weeks, he has consistently scored more than 20 points. If you need a new QB, Murray is the guy to target. It may be hard to trade for him, and I wouldn’t suggest emptying the bank, but he is someone that you should keep on your radar.

Add: Jared Goff

Although the Rams haven’t been winning lately, Goff has picked up his game. In the last two weeks, he has scored 20+ points, thus making him I believe a QB1. The Rams face the Giants, Washington, and then the 49ers. All three teams are either banged up or playing poorly. Thus I strongly urge everyone to pick up Goff if you need a new QB.

Drop: Mitchell Trubisky

Trubisky has consistently underperformed. If you have him, drop him immediately. I hate to really be rude/mean to players, as they have competed really hard to get where they are now, but Mitch needs to be benched so he can fix up his game.

Watch: Kirk Cousins

After a terrible week two performance, Cousins came back in week 3 to score 19 points. Cousins now has to lead the Vikings to face the Texans and then the Seahawks. Both teams are better than the Vikings (yes, I know the Texans are 0-3, but they still have J.J Watt), and thus I do not suggest adding him to your team, but look out for how he performs.

Watch: Joe Burrow

As a rookie, Burrow has been performing well. The question is whether he can be a QB1. For now, he is a reliable backup to have, but I don’t believe fantasy football players should have backup QBs.  Watch to see how Burrow performs against the Jags and then the Ravens, before picking him up to be your QB1.

Running backs:

Add: Mike Davis

Heading into week 3, nobody knew how Davis would do. However,  he performed well against a strong Chargers defense, making him a healthy flex option as the Panthers take on the Cardinals in week 4.

Add: Darrell Henderson Jr.

Going into week 3, it was unknown whether Brown or Henderson Jr. would be the starting RB for the Rams. After week 3’s performance, it seems that Henderson Jr. has taken the job. He is an immediate pick up in all leagues.

Add: Jeff Wilson Jr.

After scoring 20 points, Wilson is someone that has emerged as a healthy flex option. I would warn everyone, though, the 49ers Running core is very crowded along. Mckinnon is still listed above Wilson on the RB depth chart.

Drop: Leonard Fournette

Fournette has not performed well at all in the last three weeks. Just cut him already.

Watch: Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel

This duo from the Patriots performed really well against the Raiders. Burkhead had a 3TD game, while Michel ran for a stable 117 yards. Look out for how this duo does. I would even go as far as saying to pick up Burkhead in deep leagues.

Wide receivers:

Add: Tyler Boyd

Over the last two weeks, it seems that Boyd has emerged as the #1 WR for the Bengals, thus making him a healthy flex option on most fantasy football teams.

Add: Hunter Renfrow

The Raiders receiving core is banged up, except for Renfrow. I would consider him a healthy flex option for week 4, but week four only.

Add: Braxton Berrios

With all the injuries that the Jets’ WR core has taken, Berrios has emerged as the #1 WR for the Jets. As long as the other Jets’ WRs are sidelined, look at Berrios as being a solid Flex Option.

Cut/Trade: T.Y Hilton and D.J Moore

Both players have not been playing well at all. Look towards trading them, or cutting them.

Watch: Rookie Tee Higgins

Higgins was invisible in his NFL debut, but it seems like he has emerged. The Bengals face the Jaguars’ defense, which allowed Fitzpatrick to light them up. Watch to see how he performs that game before jumping to pick him up.

Tight ends:

I have no suggestions with the Tight End position. Most Tight Ends are just booms or busts. I suggest looking at matchups when it comes to picking on. Also, look closely at who the QB is and whether they like to pass to TE’s a lot or not.
