Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has been breaking records left and right. Last week, he made European Championships history as he became the all-time top scorer in the summer tournament. Afterward, the 36-year-old athlete crossed the 300 million follower threshold on Instagram

Cristiano Ronaldo now holds the record for the most followers on any personal Instagram account. It’s evident that he’s established himself as the app’s most popular figure; it’s been that way for a while now. Even in January of last year, the Portugal striker was the first person to reach the 200 million mark on the same platform.

He now sits only behind Instagram’s own account, which has 398 million followers. He’s significantly ahead of any other actual person on the social media app, with Dwayne Johnson in second (247m), Ariana Grande in third (244m), and Kylie Jenner in fourth (242m).

His popularity goes beyond just the world of football. He’s also well-known for his varying commercial affiliations, hobby in gaming, and romantic relationships. He has genuinely attracted a wide-ranging audience that admires and supports him.

With this heavy influence, Cristiano Ronaldo holds great power in the marketing industry. In the most recent example, Coca-Cola’s market value dropped by $5 billion after Cristiano Ronaldo moved two drink bottles away from him before a press conference.

As his following and sway continue to reach new heights, Cristiano Ronaldo has also become the top-earning celebrity from Instagram. According to a report by HopperHQ, Cristiano Ronaldo’s mega-following has the potential to earn a whopping $930,000 per post. From March 2019 to March 2020, he grossed the most money on Instagram from sponsored posts, bagging $50.3 million (more than the salary he earns at his football club, Juventus).

In addition to the 300 million on Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo boasts 92.3 million followers on Twitter and another 148 million on Facebook.
