How MrBeast’s Philanthropic Efforts Shook the Internet
YouTubers are who we turn to in times of boredom. For 10-20 minutes, we allow our attention to be controlled by an informal entertainer on a web platform. Among them? Jimmy Donaldson, otherwise known as MrBeast. Today, he amasses around 50 million subscribers and is widely recognized for his overall content quality, philanthropy, and funny personality. How’d he do it? Let’s talk about it.
Starting off at the age of 13, MrBeast uploaded his first YouTube video in 2012. Starting off with content covering video games, reactions, compilations, and more, Jimmy earned a moderate 30,000 subscribers by 2016. Around this period, he chose to pursue a path ulterior to attending school.
Upon dropping out of college, MrBeast knew that he needed to go viral to pursue his passion safely. His solution? Doing something stupid. In 2017, MrBeast decided to count to 100,000 in a single video, which took him 24 hours to complete. Today, that video has over 20 million views (a relatively above-average number in comparison to what he gets today). However, that piece of content would be the jumpstart to becoming an extremely lucrative career.
In short, MrBeast does some cool stuff. Like, a LOT of cool stuff. In the past couple of months, he’s given away:
- An $800,000 private island
- 40 cars
- 1,000,000 subscribers
- $200,000 to the unemployed
- A house
- $1,000,000 (yes, he flat out gave someone a million bucks)
MrBeast’s content is entertaining, unique, wholesome, and overall entertaining. As of 2020, he’s given away millions of dollars, earning him the title of YouTube’s best philanthropist. MrBeast is a brilliant entrepreneur, but what sets him apart is his viral strategy. Unlike others, most of his money is donated towards his videos, allowing him to grow a fanbase while giving money to those in need.
Not only that, his content is HILARIOUS. MrBeast frequently adds fun gimmicks to his videos, racking up billions of total views. In one post, he has four contestants place their hand on a box holding exactly $1,000,000. The catch? Whoever keeps their hand on it for the most extended amount of time gets to keep it. Yes, he gave away a million dollars for a YouTube video. In another, he has ten friends compete for ownership of a private island through a survivor-esque theme.
MrBeast is making money at a faster rate than he’s spending it. It’s estimated that he’s earning around $40,000 a day from his channel, accumulating approximately $15,000,000 every year. Not only has he leveraged his career to make him a massive sum of money, but he’s built an audience around his love for giving back to his community. While other YouTubers post videos showcasing the latest Fortnite update, MrBeast is setting off $600,000 fireworks, giving away a Lamborghini, opening a free car dealership, or just going around town handing out cash to those who need it. With MrBeast, every video is a new journey, a new theme, a new project.
MrBeast represents the epitome of the perfect YouTuber. Upon building a name off positivity and philanthropic efforts, he continues to find ways to make the world a better place.
