How We Were Able To Crack the TikTok “Viral Code”
It’s relatively recognized that TikTok fame has become a common goal. Each day, millions of videos are uploaded with the hopes of going “viral.” To test a theory about TikTok virality, a Genfluencer team decided to conduct a case study on the TikTok algorithm.
To decipher a way to break the code, our team concocted a plan of action. The first step was deciding what media our page would provide. We noticed that the “adrenaline” side of TikTok was relatively nonexistent, so we chose to create a page dedicated to showcasing the “crazy” side of life. Whether it be cliff diving, base jumping, or a cool skateboard trick, we decided the niche was extremely versatile. Upon picking our theme, the content strategy was split between 3 associates with instruction to post a minimum of 10 daily videos.
Upon posting ten times a day, the account began to take off. While this was only a week-long case analysis, the results were relatively immediate. On the third day of posting, one of the videos reached the explore page, amassing over 5 million views. This led to an influx of fans, boosting the total to 5,000 followers within four days of work. As we continued to provide content, the growth poured in at a surprisingly high rate.
As we continued to post, we noticed a trend. Of the ten videos we put up, 1-2 would reach over 10,000 people. While the rest wouldn’t do as well, the couple that hit the explore page would carry the account gains, leading to massive growth.
Within our seven days of continuous uploading, our page gained over 10,000 followers. With most videos averaging around 600 views, our plan had been relatively successful. Assuming a linear rate of growth (unlikely), that would come out to nearly 500,000 followers a year. However, TikTok’s growth is generally exponential, so we’d expect more.
From our week of posting TikTok niche content, Genfluencer concluded that growth is entirely dependent on content quantity. Given our videos were generally reposts, it was a lot easier to provide ten posts a day than if they were original, hence why we chose a niche page.
TikTok is essentially a game of chance, and increased posting simply renews your luck until one of your videos does well. We saw no effect on the peer videos’ performance when we posted in bulk, as they all generally performed to an acceptable standard. To our surprise, overposting didn’t derail previous videos’ views, making the idea of posting 10x a day more appealing.
In conclusion, the TikTok algorithm is easy to capitalize on, specifically for niche-related pages. While TikTok growth can seem daunting, the task isn’t as challenging as it may seem.
