Recently, Disney and Sony have reached an agreement allowing popular streaming service Disney+ and other Disney outlets to carry Spider-Man content on their platform through 2026.

Spider-Man films have been increasingly popular in the past few years, with the newest release of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” earning nearly $340M in profits. The movie earned $787M in total revenue compared to $448M in costs.

The deal allows for Spider-Man titles to be featured on all of Disney’s outlets, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, and others.

Other prominent media outlets are also included, though Netflix has previously earned the right to carry some Spider-Man related movies and Sony titles before anybody else.

Doing so through a Pay 1 TV window, Sony’s titles are expected to first emerge on Netflix around nine months after their release in mainstream theatres. Sometime after, however, Disney has the right to carry their most important titles.

Because of this, we can likely expect to see Some of Sony’s future big hits appear on Disney+ or Hulu around a year after they’re officially released.

Chuck Saftler, head of business operations at ABC, put out the following statement:

“This landmark multi-year, platform agnostic agreement guarantees the team at Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution a tremendous amount of flexibility and breadth of programming possibilities to leverage Sony’s rich slate of award-winning action and family films across our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels.”

Sony is now expected to earn a collective $3B during the duration of these partnerships with Netflix and Disney.

Alongside Spider-Man, Disney was granted the rights to carry other titles, including Jumanji and Hotel Transylvania.

Some Sony products are expected to be released on Disney’s outlets this June, although no names have been officially announced. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is not likely to be part of that package.

With the future addition of Spider-Man movies, however, Disney will be carrying nearly every Marvel movie that’s been released (asides from The Incredible Hulk). However, Hulk’s presence in the cinematic universe is pretty mediocre at best, so the lack of that movie shouldn’t have any effect.
