When the COVID-19 hit the world earlier this year, several countries, including the USA, went into a total lockdown. The lockdown meant sporting activities like the NBA had to be put on hold as governments, along with WHO trying to figure out ways of dealing with COVID-19.

However, as it approached June, different countries worldwide, including the US, started to ease their lockdown measures. With that, the NBA resumed on July 30th, 2020, when all teams and their players had to be isolated in the Walt Disney world under tight measures. In what many referred to as the NBA Bubble. This solution turned out to be a huge success, especially now that the season has come to an end without any major outbreaks.

Most of the NBA teams wanted to have the season completed, so they were willing to do anything possible to accomplish it, even if it meant being in an isolated Bubble. This commitment made the job of NBA commissioner Adam Silver and his team much more accessible.

There were a few scenarios when some players went off track regarding following the regulations, but the good news is these didn’t result in a significant outbreak.

Several other sporting leagues in the USA decided to resume their leagues, assuming players can freely move while following the guidelines, but this turned out to be a wrong move. It was practically impossible to have players going to their homes and expect them not to get in touch with the people around them.

The NBA’s decision to go into a Bubble was realistic because the only assured way of avoiding COVID-19 was through staying in an enclosed place without having people getting in and out – that’s what the Bubble was all about.

Walt Disney was an ideal place for the NBA Bubble.

Walt Disney world had almost everything that the league needed to be a success. They had several stadiums where the games could be played, restaurants, and hotels for accommodation. This kind of setup made it easier for the players and team staff to stay in the Bubble

Each team was allowed to bring up to 35 members, including up to 17 players, and the remaining number being the staff team. This would be difficult for a football league that would need almost twice the number, while the reasonably small number of people in the Bubble made regular testing for COVID-19 much easier.

Final thoughts

The NBA Bubble is one of the COVID-19 success stories because they have finished the league amidst a pandemic without significant hiccups. Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning the NBA finals for this season and pushing through 2020.

This can be attributed to the discipline of the payers and other team members that adhered to the measures. Any league within the USA or any other country can also try out the NBA Bubble methodology because it has proved to be a reliable way of conducting sporting activities amidst a pandemic.
