Humble, driven, and dedicated artist, Koda Hills, is already making a name for himself at only 17 years old. Born as Joel Amaya Medrano and raised in Sterling, Virginia, Koda Hills has always loved music. Koda is a bilingual artist who can rap and sing in both Spanish and English. With a unique vision and flow, Koda Hills is bringing a name to his hometown.

In general, not many people pursue music in Sterling. However, Koda Hills is a different story. In only 6th grade, he saved up enough money to build his own studio.

“I was engineering local artists in my living room for an affordable price and the money I was making off that… I decided to invest it in my own career as an artist later on,” said Koda Hills.

When Koda Hills reached the 8th grade, he began pursuing his own musical career and used his home-studio profits to record songs at GrindHard Studios. Every day after school, he would make the trek from Sterling to D.C. and make music. Soon after, he began collaborating with many other artists, music engineers, and music producers.

His first breakthrough came during his sophomore year of high school, where he released his single “4 The Stars”. He released this song through the record label EMPIRE, under the management of Mantano Group. The single was produced by NellOnTheBeatt and engineered and mixed by Rob Nimbus. This was an eye-opening experience for Koda Hills, as it sparked his music career. As the track gained popularity, Koda Hills realized making music was his calling.

“As I was growing up and breaking through my teenage years, I was going through a lot in life.  My family was constantly struggling to keep up with the bills and struggling to maintain themselves.  On top of that… My father had a stroke in 2014 – 2015, which ruined me mentally, so I began to let all of my emotions out in my music,” said Koda Hills.

Koda Hills feels the only way he can entirely express himself is through music. Through all of the hardships he has experienced, creating music has always been a positive outlet.

Although Koda Hills looks up to several artists, such as Juice Wrld and Nipsey Hussle, his most prominent role model and only influence in life is his father.

“My father has raised me to be the man I am today and the man that I shall continue to be in life.  I will be a better version of him as life goes on, and I will make sure he is proud of his youngest son,” said Koda Hills.

Unlike most artists, Koda Hills is not concerned with fame or fortune. His main goal is to give back to his community and create a legacy for himself. Growing up, he watched numerous interviews with Nipsey Hussle and was inspired by how he gave back to his community.

“His mindset and vision were very inspirational and amazing, which had a major impact on me as an up and coming artist. That was something I’ve always wanted to do as I made my way into the music industry and as I got bigger,” said Koda Hills.

As time has passed, Koda Hills’ musical structure and flow have expanded. He enjoys spending most of his time being in the studio and creating music spontaneously. Koda Hills is currently working with Naveed Mian, an American businessman, talent manager/agent, Sam Schachter, a music manager, and videographer.

Today, Koda Hills is working on a few projects, music videos, and, most importantly, producing bilingual content to help expand his platform. As he continues to release hit singles, there is no doubt he will attain a reputation od success. His determination and hard work are inspirational.

My message to everyone is to do good and to never give up in life because anything and everything you desire to do is possible. I want everyone to have the ability to relate to my music and receive hope, motivation, and inspiration from me to keep on pushing through and to stay strong through the tough times we are put through in life.”
